Bernio
Secure Agentic Legal Operating System

Run the entire matter. Inside a secure perimeter.

Intake to close, drafted and reviewed by supervised agents — with matter-level isolation, a named practitioner’s approval before anything reaches a client, and a signed record of every action.

Bernio ProSoon

The on-premise AI appliance for firms that keep everything in-house.

Bernio Pro runs the full platform inside your infrastructure: models hosted locally, agents executing within your perimeter, connected through a hardware-encrypted channel.

No shared tenancy. Processing runs on the device, and in isolated operation no external call is made at all.

Future of Work

Bernio is the engine for the AI-Native Law Firm.

Imagine a law firm where every new matter triggers an intelligent orchestration layer — evaluating scope, assembling the right team, deploying AI agents to execute, and maintaining a complete audit trail through delivery. Not a chatbot layered on top of existing tools. Infrastructure that changes how legal work actually gets done.

01

Intake & Proposal

A new matter arrives. Bernio evaluates scope, jurisdiction and risk profile, surfaces conflict candidates for a partner to clear, then drafts the proposal, engagement letter and contract. Everything is held at a gate until a named practitioner releases it — usually the same day.

Intake to Proposal to Contract
02

Strategy Development

Bernio develops a matter strategy through structured dialogue with the lead practitioner — questioning assumptions, mapping dependencies, flagging jurisdictional risk before the first billable task begins.

AI-Assisted Planning
03

Team Formation & LegalOps

Bernio builds the optimal matter team — matching your real practitioners by expertise, workload, and track record — and supplements with AI agents at the seniority level each task requires.

Human + AI Team
04

Execution, Approval & Audit

AI agents receive, execute, and return work like any team member. Every output passes practitioner approval before it reaches the client. Bernio keeps a signed, append-only record of every action, model call and decision.

Scoped AI Agents

Put a scoped AI team on the matter.
Under a partner who signs for it.

Not a chatbot. Agents with a declared scope, an autonomy ceiling enforced at runtime, and a named supervising practitioner bound to the matter before any of them can touch it.

Human in command

Your supervising partner — named on every gate

An agent cannot be assigned to a matter until a qualified practitioner is bound to it, and the binding travels with every action it takes. AI does the work; the lawyer makes the decision.

Inside one profile

Multitasking inside a single profile.

Transaction Analysis · Regulatory Review · Risk Assessment · Negotiation Strategy · Due Diligence Coordination · Deal Structuring — coordinated capabilities, not a single model.

What compounds

The firm gets better. The matters stay sealed.

Templates, playbooks and review criteria improve with every engagement, refined by Bernio's legal engineers. Matter content never enters the pool — memory is provisioned per matter and sealed at close.

Assembled for the matter

The exact expertise, in seconds.

A cross-border acquisition needs M&A, Tax, Regulatory, Governance — the right specialists assemble, configured for the matter and released when it closes.

The scale

One matter, or forty, in parallel.

One, four, twelve, forty — available instantly, under your firm’s policy.

The infrastructure legal AI should have started with.

Built for firms that cannot afford to be wrong.

The Problem

General AI was not designed for confidential legal work.

Every matter carries obligations that general-purpose platforms were never built to respect: mixed tenancy, no usable audit trail, and no place in the workflow the work actually runs through.

01

Your clients' data is exposed.

Every prompt to a cloud model is a potential breach — of privilege, of commercial strategy, of client trust.

02

Cloud AI is unreliable for legal work.

Generic models hallucinate, cannot be audited, and sit outside any structured legal workflow.

03

Token costs are rising and accelerating.

Cloud pricing is volatile and vendor-controlled. Your exposure scales with your usage.

04

Workflow complexity demands more than chat

Legal work spans systems, practitioners and review gates. A chat box cannot orchestrate that. Infrastructure can.

Security Architecture

Confidentiality is not a feature.
Legal Privilege is
the foundation.

Bernio is architected for the obligations legal teams carry — to clients, to regulators, and to the profession itself.

Isolated data environments per client and matter — no shared model memory, no cross-tenant exposure.

Full audit logging on every AI action — who ran what, when, on which matter, with which model.

Our Vision

Privileged work deserves infrastructure built to hold it.

"Too much of legal infrastructure was designed by people who have never reviewed a contract under deadline or navigated a privilege question with a client on the line. Bernio exists because we lived the problem."

We believe the future of legal work belongs to teams that combine practitioner judgement with intelligent infrastructure. Today, too much of the legal profession’s operational capacity is consumed by process — by the mechanics of legal work rather than its substance.

Bernio was created to change this. Not by replacing the expertise of legal professionals, but by giving them infrastructure that matches the seriousness of what they do. We want law firms and in-house teams to operate with greater precision, stronger control, and complete confidence that their AI platform was built for the realities — and obligations — of serious legal practice, including the protection of attorney-client privilege.

At its core, Bernio is about one thing: legal professionals deserve infrastructure designed with them in mind — not adapted from tools built for someone else.

Why Now

The window for getting legal AI right is now.

Firms that establish sound infrastructure now are structurally advantaged over those that retrofit it later. The cost of getting it wrong is reputational and regulatory — and in some jurisdictions, disciplinary.

01

Regulators are already scrutinising AI use in regulated professions.

02

Enterprise clients are beginning to require demonstrated controls over AI on their matters.

03

Firms with capable infrastructure handle more work at the same headcount, and the gap compounds.

04

Frontier reasoning is now genuinely useful on legal tasks — but only with an orchestration layer around it.

Hard Questions

The questions that matter.

We would rather answer the uncomfortable questions here than waste your time in a demo. These are the sharpest objections we hear and our honest responses.

  • A Mac Mini runs inference. Bernio Pro runs legal infrastructure. The hardware is the smallest part of what you would be acquiring: the appliance is configured with the full orchestration platform, matter isolation, per-client data environments, audit logging and the agent runtime, tuned to the security profile a law firm actually carries. You could assemble this on commodity hardware — the same way you could build your own practice management system. The question is whether that is the best use of your partners' time. Worth saying plainly: Bernio Pro is an engineering prototype today. If you want local inference now, we deploy the platform on your own servers.

Development status

Bernio is in active development with design partners — firms running real matters through the platform and shaping what is built next — and the first commercial contracts are being signed on founding terms. The capabilities described on this page are built and can be demonstrated on a matter type your team handles. Bernio Pro — the on-premise appliance — is an engineering prototype and is not yet commercially available, so any capability on this site that depends on it is marked as such. Descriptions of the product are not warranties; the binding terms for any deployment are those set out in the applicable written agreement.
